We received our latest copy of Fortune Magazine at the office this week. Surprisingly, the front cover featured gold (of all things barbarous) on Fortune's 2014 Investor's Guide. The various sections of the Investor's Guide were introduced with pictures of gold. Contrariwise, in a cosmic twist of great irony, none of the investors featured in the magazine actually mentions gold as an investment to consider for the coming year. In fact, gold is not mentioned anywhere in the magazine at all! What is the message here?

For the first time since 2008, the US Mint will release Platinum Eagles to the public. We are receiving guidance that these coins will become available to the retail sector in February. We will post further information in this space as it becomes available.

In an effort to build up inventories for the inevitable silver eagle demand in January, the US Mint will cease production of the 2013 coins on December 9th to begin minting the 2014-dated coins. Annually, the US Mint sells more coins in January than any other month of the year, as collectors, dealers, and enthusiasts scramble for First Strike and Early Release coins. Additionally, with consistent demand in the certified coin (graded) market, a large percentage of these coins will make there way to grading companies PCGS and NGC.
