The American Platinum Eagle Coin is the first platinum coin introduced by the United States Mint since 2008. The obverse design of the platinum coins is former United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver John Mercanti's "Portrait of Liberty," and the reverse design is Mint Sculptor-Engraver Thomas D. Rogers Sr.'s "Soaring Bald Eagle."
The American Platinum Eagle Coin is an official platinum bullion coin of the United States. It was authorized under 31 U.S.C. § 5112(k). The Platinum Eagle is offered in denominations of 1 oz and ships in tubes of 20 in mint sealed boxes of 100 from the United States Mint. The Platinum Eagle’s purity, weight, and content is guaranteed by the United States Government and backed by the United States Mint. The 1 oz. American Platinum Eagle carries a face value of $100.
