The first of four coins in the new and exciting biannual bullion series from the Royal Canadian Mint featuring birds of prey. Full 1-ounce 99.99% pure silver coin crafted in bullion finish; an attractive acquisition for both first-time precious metals buyers and long-term investors.

The reverse image by Canadian artist Emily Damstra depicts a peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) in a midairattack position. Revered since the middle ages, the peregrine falcon is one of the most striking, beautiful, graceful aerial predators in the world. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The peregrine falcon is one of the most spectacular birds of prey. It is roughly the size of a crow with compact feathers and long, pointed wings that allow it to reach breakneck speeds of more than 300 km/h (200mph), making it the fastest animal in the world. The female peregrine falcon lays her eggs in a shallow hollow that she scratches out of a cliff ledge. This is her nestlings’ home for the first 35 to 45 days of life, and the place where they begin their hunting lessons by catching food their parents drop from above. At six weeks, the nestlings take to the sky to snatch food directly from their parents’ talons. Once they are able to provide for themselves, they will permanently leave the nest to grace the skies with the same beauty and power that has been captured on this spectacular coin.
