The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2018 year-date, the weight and purity, and the monetary denomination are shown on the coin’s obverse. Struck by The Perth Mint from 2oz of 99.99% pure silver, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and has a maximum mintage of 75,000 pieces.
The koala family’s evolution in Australia dates back some 30 to 40 million years, when it separated from its closest relative, the Australian wombat. The coin’s reverse depicts a mother koala perched on a branch with its baby on its back. Eucalyptus leaves, radial lines and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark are also included in the design.
