Reverse of 1/2 oz 2024 American Gold EagleObverse of 1/2 oz 2024 American Gold EagleThe 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle bullion coin has officially been released for the mint year of 2024. Authorized by the successful passage of the Gold Bullion Act of 1985, the coin was first introduced into circulation in 1986. The U.S. Mint’s annual coin is strictly comprised of gold mined in the U.S. and is produced to contain 1/2 troy ounce of gold that is combined with an alloy of 3% silver and 5.33% copper to enhance its durability. As an official gold bullion coin of the U.S., the 91.67% (22 karat) American Gold Eagle bullion coins are IRA-eligible, and the purity, weight, and content are guaranteed by both the U.S. government and the U.S. Mint. The 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle coin carries a face value of $25.

The face of the 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle bullion coin remains based on the design of the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, a $20 gold coin produced by the U.S. Mint from 1907 to 1933. Set to the backdrop of a beaming sun, Lady Liberty strides forward as she proudly holds high a flaming torch, symbolizing enlightenment, in her right hand. Signifying peace, an olive branch is held firmly in her left hand. The mint year is inscribed within the sun’s rays on the right-hand side of the scene. Legacy details have been restored for the obverse design to include modifications to the Capitol Building, stars, torch, sun rays and other details of the illustration that depicts an inspiring scene of Lady Liberty. Arched in a semicircle across the top of the coin is the word “Liberty,” spelled out in bold capital letters. Fifty stars surround the perimeter of the obverse, representing all 50 states in the U.S., a design that has been modified from the 1907 design with 46 stars and the 1912 design with 48 stars.

The new design for the reverse side of the 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle bullion coin was created by artist Jennie Norris, a member of the US Mint Artistic Infusion Program and then sculpted by the US Mint Medallic Artist, Renata Gordon. The reverse side depicts a bold and highly detailed portrait of the American Bald Eagle placed in the center of the coin. “United States of America” in bold capital letters proudly arched over the top of the coin along with the motto “E Pluribus Unum” which translates to “out of many, one” and “In God We Trust” is inscribed above the eagle’s portrait.

A 1 oz. American Gold Eagle is 32.7 mm in diameter and 2.87 mm thick.
